Rehearsal #12

October 24, 2013

Excellent rehearsal. We were able to discern what we feel could be a beginning and and end to the piece. Right now the organization of the piece is looking as follows:

1. Blocks and Bellies Segment ("Walk Don't Run" The String-A-Longs)
2. Cable Table
3. Trio/Duet/Solo Segment ("Nocturne Op. 72, No. 1" Glass Duo and Frédéric Chopin)
4. Rivendell/Men's Duet ("Lux Aurumque" Eric Wittacre/Quire of Voyces - Tentative)
5. End Cable Segment ("Under Pressure" Queen/David Bowie - Tentative)

See below videos for rough footage of some of the segments as we worked on them from the last two rehearsals.

Blocks and Bellies Segment

Cable Table

Rivendell

This is the Rivendell section's movement vocabulary in its most basic form. We have been using it to develop the fourth section of the dance. Dancers, please think about the quality of movement we spoke about last time - circular, waves, constant motion, exhaustion, etc. Think about where the energy is from one movement to the next, from one stillness to the next.

End Cable Segment

Please excuse the laughter at the beginning. We discovered it was very difficult not to laugh. There was a great moment in which Shannon smartly began to theatricalize the laughter, an idea that I'd like to explore further next time. We also played with the ending a little more after the filming of this section.
